Keystone Equality Board Member and Interns Attend Political IMPACT Institute

Keystone Equality Interns Agnes Crespos-Himstedt and Wendy Wright, along with Keystone Equality Board Member, Kevin Wilson, were present at this year’s Political IMPACT Institute at LaSalle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. IMPACT stands for “Influencing Meaningful Policy and Community Transformation.” The Political IMPACT Institute is national program designed to strengthen civic engagement and political leadership within the social work profession.

The Institute brought together students, practitioners, educators, and community advocates for a full day of programming focused on the role of social workers in shaping public policy. Sessions explored the foundations of political social work, the ethical responsibility of the profession to engage in political processes, and practical strategies for influencing legislation, supporting community‑based advocacy, and participating in electoral systems.

Kevin Wilson contributed his perspective as a Keystone Equality Board Member and experienced advocate. Wilson addressed the importance of sustained civic participation, and the ways in which social workers can leverage their skills to become involved in the political process and advance equitable policy. His remarks helped frame broader conversations throughout the day about political impact and the responsibilities of practitioners working within diverse communities.

The Political IMPACT Institute continues to serve as a key training ground for individuals committed to integrating political action into social work practice. Keystone Equality’s representation at the event reflected the organization’s ongoing engagement in statewide efforts to promote nondiscrimination, strengthen community leadership, and support emerging advocates across Pennsylvania.
